Joy...
Last week I had lunch with a dear friend. During our conversation she brought up the word "joy" and what this meant to her. It gave me a great deal to reflect on for the remainder of the week.
For some time my husband has been encouraging me to try visionary painting--"paint what's in your head." It certainly sounds simple, but my head can be a very cluttered place! The images that have surfaced for some time are those of my childhood. I was very blessed to have a carefree and innocent childhood with a very loving family. I've sketched a few rough images out and this week finally tried to paint one of them.
I wasn't exactly sure what I expected of the finished painting. Many of my memories of childhood, particularly earlier childhood, are scant of details and often I didn't have the vocabulary to truly describe what I saw....instead there are images and feelings. I believe this is what is reflected in "Bubbles." I've wanted to do a collection to pay tribute to my wonderful beginning in life and I couldn't decide what to call it. After lunch with my friend, it clicked--this collection will simply be called "Joy." Truly there is no more joyous time than the innocence of a child enjoying all the new discoveries and wonder life has to offer.
I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed creating it!
